Ty Derk has been practicing art for over 25 years and focuses mostly on creating original pieces inspired by mythology, science-fiction, and fantasy using traditional mediums. Ty was born in Sunbury, Pa in 1983 where he pursued arts from an early age and attended any art curriculum he could attend. He continued on to learn advertising art and design at a local vocational school then later attended Kutztown University where he studied Fine Arts and Art History. There he focused his talents on drawing and printmaking.
After graduating he moved to Philadelphia with his wife where he continued his work as a freelance artist and designer. He embraced his second home of brotherly and sisterly love and began painting murals, attending local art events, and teaching drawing classes in the Philadelphia area. It was during this time he also illustrated several books and was fortunate enough to be published multiple times. Ty specializes in the use of traditional mediums and favors graphite pencils and colored pencils but also enjoys pen and ink and the occasional sculpture or fabrication.
After 20 years in Philadelphia Ty has returned home to Sunbury to be closer to family and raise his three sons. He continues to work on a variety of projects and currently works as the Program Director for STEAM Innovation Labs a maker space for artists and crafters. He also recently completed the new mural on Market St. in Sunbury with more murals planned and scheduled for the future.
